John Levy started Garage Musicals as a way to combine his passions for both music and film.

Levy grew up in the most western province of Sicily in a town called Fairfield, NJ.  During high school he formed an imaginary band with an actual musician and accidentally started writing songs.  Eventually the band became real, as did their prospects.  Eight years and many songs later Levy left the band life to pursue film.  The pursuit got off the ground as Levy wrote and directed a short 16mm film called “On The Blink.”  The film got the attention of HBO, and for the first time John actually got paid to write and produce, in this case, for HBO’s On Air Dept.

John’s first Garage Musical, “Petunia,” premiered at the Austin Film Festival in 2002.  It later played at more than 15 film festivals, including international showings at the 2009 Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival in France and the 2003 FIKE-Evora International Short Film Festival in Portugal.

Most recently, Levy has been in post-production on his second Garage Musical “Deep Score.”
